Make it a double
Woo hoo, you've made it to Week 2...of No New Things Together!
You’ve made it an entire week of No New Things, and that’s really something to celebrate. If you’re following on social media or along with the book, you know that there are a few juicy reflection-starters to mull over before you jump into Week 2. These questions center on how the week felt for you, what was challenging, what was exciting and satisfying, what you’re most looking forward to, etc. And I will say: Even if you’re not a journaling person or a reflecting person, these are very, very worth doing. You’re going to learn a lot about yourself and your consumerist impulses from these. ANYWHO…
On to Week 2
Now that you’ve become familiar with the Challenge foundations, Week 2 focuses on two areas that are key to No New Things: 1) removing those pesky temptations and 2) strengthening skill sets that will make incorporating new habits a breeze. The first four days are gonna be like noise-cancelling headphones for all those marketing messages and influencer glop that smother your life and sabotage your best intentions. And I promise, it’ll be music to your ears, balm for the soul, every other allusion that is good in the world. The final three days help you hone habits that are part of the No New Things way of life: getting comfortable and damn good at shopping and selling secondhand, flexing your upcycling (computer badly wanted to autocorrect this to “upchucking” lol) and repurposing muscles, and becoming acquainted with a process I like to call ‘ethical offloading’ (aka: where to send hard-to-offload stuff so it doesn’t become space trash and instead might benefit others). Sounds cool, right? I’m biased, but I agree. It’s a very, very cool week.
Keep the Momentum
While it’s a new week, you’re still going to parallel path all of the other action items you’ve already done as needed or as they arise. For instance, you might have a random return to make or you might discover new activities to add to your Love List. And, of course, you’re going to keep Tracking Your Triggers every day so you can continue to collect data on your sexy little self that will help you see the patterns of consumerism and what triggers them.
A Question for the Trust Tree
For those of you following the Challenge to the letter, or even for the folks who are kinda following along from the shadows: Did you find anything out about your impulses that you want to share? Was there an item that really stumped you or that you reallyreallyreally wanted to buy? We’re in the Trust Tree here, so share if you feel so compelled.
And I'll see you tomorrow on Instagram and TikTok with your Day 8 action item and beyond. You’re doing amazing, sweetie. Mwah!

Books! A good booklist gets me every time. Anyone recommending an author or a book series is my kryptonite. So I put them all on a list together and got out the ole laptop to find them in the library database. It’s a quick drive when they’re ready. 225 bucks saved. I’d fallen off the library wagon since the holidays started. Time to get back to it!
My triggers are for sure when I’m feeling bored or emotional… (so I’ve started to use the mantra of “do something ! “ Especially for the 2-7 mins for the impulse to pass). A win for the week was doing an artistic meditation on paper (using items I already have at home) and getting a frame at goodwill so my “doing” activity turned into art for my home !
